“Out of sight, out of mind” is a b.s. excuse. So if you don’t see your loved ones for months or years, you forget about them? Especially if we’re connected on social networks, you really can’t use that excuse.
You just couldn’t let me go could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptible aren’t you? You won’t kill me out of some misplaced sense of self-righteousness, and I won’t kill you, because you’re just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever. -The Joker
This quote from the movie “The Dark Knight” has been the splinter in my mind for the longest time. It made me think of my own life as an advocate for social justice. Are really destined to do this dance forever? The seemingly unstoppable forces (imperialism, capitalism, globalization) with the immovable objects (the principled & uncompromising progressives, cultural workers, & revolutionaries). Let’s say we accomplish what the late Richard Aoki hoped and “finish the job” of truly defeating imperialism, capitalism, and globalization. What happens then to our purpose as progressives, cultural workers, and revolutionaries? Which is related to the deeper question The Joker attempts to answer, “What happens when an unstoppable force meets and immovable object?” If we are destined to do this dance forever, then so be it, because I don’t want my purpose of serving the people as a cultural worker to ever change.
” —“For two years now, I’ve come out with this year-end list of what for me are the “Top 10 Mass Movement Moments” in recognition of the efforts of various sectors and groups in advancing the struggle for genuine freedom and democracy. It’s a personal list and I encourage folks to make their own so we can look back at the year with a positive vibe and look forward to the new year with great optimism and firmer resolve.”
